CONCEPT
Through an abstracted image of a rabbit, I was able to represent Harvey and his peculiar existence as a pooka. Both the solid and dotted lines are more than simply a means used to create this abstracted image. Each line represents a character and the paths they take throughout the day. The solid line represents Elwood’s path, while the dotted line is Harvey’s. The light, spaced out dots slightly fade into the background behind the solid line, referencing Harvey’s inability to be seen by most characters. The colored shapes behind the lines each represent a different location from the story, while also giving context to the linear illustration of Harvey. The red “ear” represents the first location in the story, Elwood’s home. The green “bowtie” represents Dr. Chumley’s Hospital, where most of the day was spent. Finally, the blue “ear” is Charlie’s place. Each color was chosen to reflect the set design for a different location. Finally, the text is a part of the lines in the image, creating a fun and interactive way to read the information on the poster. This allows the viewer to follow the path and discover text, similar to how some of the characters within the play discovered Harvey.
