AUTISM FRIENDLY COMMUNITY

Autism McLean

CONCEPT
Autism McLean strives to create an autism friendly community through every service and event they provide.Inspired by both the Autism Friendly Community logo, and their six core values, I was able to create a poster that embodied the organization’s mission. Without these values and key goals, an autism friendly community cannot exist. Throughout my poster, I have placed the six core values, along with their supporting statement, to inform others about what autism friendly means. The Autism Friendly Community logo colors accompany their respective core value. I have taken a systematic approach to designing the overall imagery within my design. I was inspired by those with autism who create a system in their every day life or hobbies. I have created a grid system that spells out the word ‘Autism’ on each line. I would roll a dice, and with each number, a different treatment of the letter would form. This could be rotating the letter a certain way, deleting part of it, changing the color, and even adding design elements. The letters are different in one way or another to represent each individual with autism and how they are all unique in their own way. Although each letter varies in treatment, you are still able to find commonalities between them. To fully spell ‘Autism’ within my poster, you need each letter to work together. Similarly, everyone in the community needs to work as a whole to create an autism friendly community by upholding the ideals behind the six core values.
